EXTRAORDINARY — Season 2 (2024)
Graphic Designer — Dailies
High-volume graphic design supporting story and stunt safety
The Project
Extraordinary is set in a world where everyone develops superpowers — except Jen, a 25-year-old still waiting for hers. I joined the production as a daily graphic designer in March–April 2023 to support a key visual gag set inside Jen’s “mind library.”
The scene required the creation of hundreds of book covers, forming a wall of books that collapse to reveal a hidden opening.

Practical Design for Production
The books themselves were constructed from foam blocks for safety, with graphic wraps applied to create the illusion of weight and realism on camera. This required designs that would read clearly while accommodating the physical constraints of props intended to fall around the cast without risk of injury.
Working at speed, I developed a flexible system to generate high volumes of unique covers while maintaining visual credibility and avoiding recognisable real-world books or authors.
The Mind Library
The books represent Jen’s memories and thoughts, so the designs needed to feel believable, varied and personal, like the contents of a well-lived-in second-hand bookshop.
I created a wide range of covers referencing:
Classic Penguin-style paperbacks
Cloth-bound hardbacks
More contemporary graphic book design
Titles were deliberately varied in tone and style, reflecting different emotional states and fragments of memory without drawing focus away from the action.
